SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE (A Parish Council Committee)
Duties: Lead the parish in increasing awareness of Catholic Social Teaching; motivate parishioners to reach out in service, justice, advocacy and solidarity. Work with a committee to coordinate individual service projects
Time: Varies, with much of the coordination done via email

HELPING HANDS
Duties: Assist parishioners who are home bound or who have special needs. Such assistance may include such things as home visits, rides to mass or doctors' appointments or assistance in grocery shopping
Time: Varies; Volunteers always needed

MONTHLY FOOD COLLECTION
Duties: Donate and bring staple food supplies to church (please place in the last two pews) for distribution to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish and Catholic Charities in Washington, D.C. Giant and Safeway "gift certificates" also welcome, preferably in denominations of $25.00. Please don't leave certificates in pews, but rather, bring the certificates to the Rectory
Time: First weekend of each month

THANKSGIVING TURKEYS
Duties: Cook and deliver turkeys to the church parking lot for delivery to Martha's Table, a Washington D.C. area food kitchen, for Thanksgiving meal for the homeless
Time: Saturday before Thanksgiving

EASTER HAMS
Duties: Cook and deliver hams to the church parking lot for delivery to Martha's Table, a Washington D.C. area food kitchen, for Easter meal for the homeless on Palm Sunday

COMMUNITY OF HOPE DINNER BASKETS
Duties: Prepare Thanksgiving and Easter dinner baskets for distribution to needy families utilizing Community of Hope facilities. Donated gift certificates and staple food items complete the baskets
Time: One day prior to both Thanksgiving and Easter

ANNUAL CLOTHING DRIVE
Duties: Donate clean clothing in good condition for delivery to our sister parish in Nicaragua. Summer clothing is shipped to Nicaragua, while fall and winter clothing is processed through Goodwill Industries which provides vouchers to Our Lady Queen of Peace for use by its needy parishioners
Time: The drive is held in October of each year

GIVING TREE PROJECT
Duties: Provide new Christmas toys for distribution by a number of charitable organizations to needy families at Christmas.
Time: This project is held in December of each year

BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT
Duties: Provide new school supplies for distribution to needy children at Immaculate Conception School in Washington, D.C.

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS
Duties: Many volunteers working independently, purchase and/or prepare at least 25 complete meals for a coordinated delivery to the homeless of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. Each volunteer purchases and/or prepares a component of these meals, which is then combined with the other components, for delivery to Our Lady of Lourdes
Time: Monthly or as available

LEGISLATIVE NETWORK
Duties: Encourage, in a group or individually, legislative changes and initiatives that support social justice issues within the Archdiocese. Each year, those interested travel to Annapolis while the Maryland Legislature is in session to lobby for Archdiocesan positions on abortion and other relevant issues
Time: Varies; and possible visits to Annapolis.
Special Skills: Training available annually through the Archdiocese; written materials also available; anyone with a desire to advocate for people who have no voice in the political system is welcome.

- Anyone working with children under the age of 18 will be required to comply with the safety measures implemented in accordance with the Child Protective Policy of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. Such measures include, among other things, background checks and fingerprinting.
